Vertikal Days 2011 - Panorama
The sun was a out at the well attended Vertkial Days last week with reports of attendances up by 50% on the previous year.
At 30 metres up on the Bronto 34, it was also a little breezy for Mark Mercer photographer of Panini Pics, seen here capturing Vertikal Days as a giant panorama, to view and zoom into the 1.1 gigapixel image that records the event please visit our new Panorama Gallery.
Mark explains - Vertikal Days 2011 has been a great start to a new venture for me. Working with Facelift, we are taking a leap into the world of robots, gigapixals and super computers.
Gigapixal panorama photography offers the viewer the ability to see the big picture, and then zooming in on amazing details in one image. The robot that my Canon SLR is mounted on was originally designed by NASA for its Mars Exploration Rovers. It allows me to take hundreds of slightly overlapping pictures of an event like Vertikal Days or a beautiful view and using very clever software combine them seamlessly. The result is an image that is hundreds of times more detailed than one from even the best digital cameras.
The collaboration with Facelift enables us to offer clients a wonderful cutting edge photographic service for the web or print, fantastic interactive images that engage the viewer, taken from a unique perspective.
