Facelift 34th Anniversary

When driving a picker at a height what do you have to wear?

The standard safety equipment for using a boom type platform should be adequate for safety when you're traversing the cherry picker with the cage raised. That is:

However, before working at height decisions regarding fall protection equipment use must come from a job specific risk assessment by trained personnel.

Before use, safety harnesses should be inspected by a competent person and their state logged under a regular programme to ensure they are safe. The operator should also inspect their harness before use. (You can learn about our half-day harness training course here.)

As well as fall protection equipment, the correct general protective equipment should also be worn. This may include:

  • Hard hat with chin strap
  • High visibility clothing
  • Footwear with steel toe caps
  • Gloves
  • Eye protection

We have a MEWP Operator's Safety Guide which is free to download, and offer IPAF certified work at height training which will teach you all of the ins and outs of using a cherry picker.
