Asbestos: The hidden killer
New Training Courses.
Asbestos, once a widely used building material, is now known to cause everything from scarring of the lungs to fatal lung cancer. Subsequently, its use was banned in 1999.
However, that doesn’t mean that the danger is in any way eradicated. While asbestos may no longer be being used now, it is still very much with us. In short, in any structure built before 1999, there is a risk that asbestos will be present, ready to be released in its airborne form when work takes place. And because asbestos-related diseases can take years to develop, often you won’t know what damage has been done until 15-60 years later.
No wonder then, that under the requirements of The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, training should be given to all employees who could be exposed to the risk of asbestos through their work.
The list of the professions that are likely to be at risk is long and diverse; electricians, plumbers, surveyors, architects, maintenance staff and engineers all have a far higher risk of exposure than the average person.
To help companies enable their employees to manage this risk appropriately, Facelift are offering a fully accredited HSE Asbestos Awareness Course. This four hour course will provide employees with the knowledge they need to be able to identify asbestos, and ensure they stay safe.
The course covers:
· Asbestos and its history
· How to identify asbestos
· Health effects
· Types & products of asbestos
· Emergency procedures
· Identification process of Asbestos Containing Material (ACM)
Delegates will be tested on what they have learnt after the course, and successful candidates will be awarded an Asbestos Awareness Training Certificate, which is valid for 12 months and is proof that they have received the proper training regarding asbestos.
The course costs just £80 per person. We can also carry out on site training when there is a minimum of 10 delegates attending the course.
