20 July 2001 Email this articleThe effects of a fire that could have caused hundreds of thousands of pounds of damage to the interior and invaluable works of art at Coventry Cathedral are being cleared up by Spider access platforms from Facelift Access Hire. The blaze, which broke out from a storeroom in the undercroft, was quickly extinguished after more than 75 fire service personnel were called to the scene. Fears have been expressed that Sutherland?s priceless tapestry, that measures 74ft by 38ft and is among the world?s largest, would be irreparably damaged. The fire is believed to have been started deliberately and is being treated as arson. Facelift provided Spider TS26 and TS29 machines to cope with the complex clear-up operation. The access platforms are particularly suitable for working in confined spaces. They have a narrow chassis, allowing entry through doorways as narrow as 0.75m. Infinite adjustment on the outriggers allows them to be set up in the most restricted areas.
