Eddie & Trish - Work at height safety in York
Senior IPAF Instructor, Eddie Reast provided an introductory talk about working at height safely as part of the RBS Mentor's SHE Development Days Conference held in York earlier this year. RBS Mentor provides a business consultancy service to support businesses with their employment law, health and safety and environmental legislation.
Facelift Access Hire were originally contacted by RBS Mentors' Health and Environmental Consultancy Manager, Andy Simmonds, following a request from their members that they would like to know more about the subject of working at height and the different methods and equipment available for this purpose.
Eddie tailor-made a two hour presentation that covered the different approaches to working at height and the organisations responsible for maintaining standards, including IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) and PASMA (Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’ Association responsible for Mobile access towers). He also introduced IRATA for rope access and NASC for scaffold access. There was a live demonstration using a Mobile aluminium tower with examples of the approved methods i.e. 3T through the trap and the installation of advanced guardrail systems.
The delegates were introduced to the use of fall safety harnesses and the New ZT safety harness that was demonstrated by Eddie's wife Trish.
The presentation was very well received and was followed by a Q&A session to answer specific questions raised by the delegates.
