Facelift Hickstead helping to keep cyclists safe with FORS accreditation
After a recent on-site audit, the team at Facelift Hickstead were delighted to learn that they had met the criteria for Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) accreditation – a fleet safety scheme run by Transport for London (TfL).
One of the primary reasons for the introduction of FORS is the unacceptable number of cycling collisions that result in death or serious injury in our nation’s capital. In 2012 there were 14 cyclist fatalities in London, with 5 involving Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), including skip or tipper trucks.
The FORS scheme encourages change in this area from the top down, by requiring all businesses working for or on behalf of TfL to improve the safety of their vehicles and implement measures which will help reduce the danger these large vehicles pose to cyclists.
Being awarded FORs bronze accreditation is a hallmark of quality and shows that our operation is being run safely, efficiently and in an environmentally sound manner. Areas examined include driver safety, communications and staff training. Next stop, achieving Silver and Gold accreditation!
