Health and Safety Executive issues safety alert
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a safety alert to the construction industry, scaffolding companies and scaffolding suppliers, urging immediate measures to prevent unauthorised access onto scaffolding and other work platforms to be taken – something that is especially important over the school summer holidays.
The HSE recommends that relevant businesses carry out a full site assessment, taking into account factors such as proximity to residential areas, whether the site is occupied out-of-hours and the number of access points on the scaffold. Once this is done, they can then implement preventative measures such as removing ladders, installing ladder guards, building local fencing around potentially vulnerable areas on the scaffold and adding site perimeter fencing where appropriate.
