Italy sets new record for world's tallest LEGO tower
Italian LEGO fans have set a new record for the world’s tallest LEGO tower, standing at an impressive 35.05 metres high.
The tower was built in the Italian city of Milan and was completed after a five day building process that involved more than half a million LEGO bricks. In addition, more than 18,000 volunteers were enlisted to help put up the structure. The Italian tower has taken the title from a 34.76 metre construction in the Romanian city of Bucharest.
Under the watchful eyes of officials from the Guiness Book of World Records, the final piece of the tower was put in place by X-Factor Italy presenter Alessandro Cattelan, who completed the build with the aid of a cherry picker.
The amazing spectacle was organised by LEGO who donated €7 to an Italian development programme for every centimetre of the tower built.
