New machines? What are the fuel economics!
Anyone cynical about whether new machines really do help businesses boost the bottom line may be interested in some calculations from a Scottish-based construction firm.
Dumfries-based AMD Contract Services purchased JCB JS130, JS145, JS220 and JS290 tracked excavators, which all have the new JCB Ecomax fuel-efficient engine. To test the machines’ efficiency it carried out tests against a 2010 JCB equivalent. On exactly the same heavy-duty applications, the new machine used six litres less fuel per hour.
Discussing their findings, AMD director Fraser Dykes said: “The fuel economy on the new machines is incredible – up to six litres per hour when compared to previous models. We are saving approximately £4 per machine, per hour. For our contracts division, which could typically complete 2500 hours per annum, that’s a saving on fuel of £10,000 in a year.”
