We need industry to take card fraud seriously, says Ian Sidney, CITB Fraud Investigator
The Construction Industry Training Board’s (CITB) fraud investigator, Ian Sidney, has called upon the sector to do more to combat card fraud.
Speaking in the wake of a December episode of the BBC’s Fake Britain, which focused on fake cards in the construction industry, he said that tackling the supply of fake cards was at the ‘forefront’ of improving health and safety in the industry.
Mr Fraser also highlighted what the CITB is doing to combat fraud in test centres, which includes bringing forward a comprehensive review of all testing centres and putting a hold on the launch of any new testing centres until that review is complete, and accelerating the installation of CCTV in all testing centres.
Recent research conducted by the CITB and skills certification scheme CSCS regarding the issue of card fraud on construction sites, showed that while 86% of cardholders had their cards checked, under half (43%) were properly checked to see if they were actually qualified to do the job
